How To Use
 
The goal of BIGHARDHAT is to accurately match employers (contractors, homeowners, etc.) with tradespeople.

How BIGHARDHAT works
Tradespeople create profiles to describe their personal characteristics and trade skills. Someone in need of a tradesperson conducts a search based on specific job criteria. BIGHARDHAT then evaluates all profiles for compatibility with the searcher's criteria and returns a list of profiles ranked by degree of match, expressed as a percentage. The higher the percentage, the more closely the tradesperson matches the searcher's criteria. From the Search Results page, the searcher can review full profiles and then contact individual tradespeople to discuss compatibility and terms of employment.

Tradespeople
Create your personalized profile by clicking the Create Profile link from the BIGHARDHAT Home page and filling out the form.
  • Name - Use your full name, your first name, or an appropriate nickname.
  • Maximum Travel Radius, Rate, and Availability - These items directly affect how you match with potential employers.
  • Choose how you want to be contacted:

    E-Mail - If you provide an E-Mail address, you can either display it on your profile or keep it private. If you display your E-Mail address, searchers can contact you directly by standard E-Mail. If you don't display it, searchers can send a message through our system that will be delivered to your private E-Mail address.

    Telephone/Fax - Provide primary and secondary numbers where you can be reached.

  • Skills & Qualifications, Equipment, and Personal Statement sections - These are free-form text boxes. Provide as much or as little information as you like, but know that these areas will distinguish you from other tradespeople and are keyword searchable by potential employers.
  • Summary Skills - Provide an overview of your skills, limited to 80 characters. This will be displayed with your other basic statistics on the Search Results page, for quick viewing by searchers.
  • Upload an image to post on your profile for a personal touch.
Once you've set up your profile, be sure to maintain it for accuracy and your Availability. The Availability calendar covers 5 weeks at a time; at the end of each week, the oldest week drops off the calendar and a new week comes on, requiring you to post your Availability for that week.

Employers
From the BIGHARDHAT Home page, enter your search criteria. Mandatory inputs are the type of trade and the ZIP code where your project is located. Use the other search criteria - trade level, target pay rate, keywords, and work dates - to focus your search results. Words inputted in the Keywords box cause BIGHARDHAT to search all fields in profiles for matches.

Clicking the Find Tradesperson button runs your search and returns a list of profiles ranked by degree of match. Click on a tradesperson's name to view their full profile. If you wish to initiate contact, do so using the information the tradesperson has provided.
